(forgive abbreviations - gdpr!) the relaxed style of the day gave us time to catch up with them and include new member tr.... talk turned to other pubs we could visit, so dust off your christmas jumpers and keep an eye out for a december reroute. cheers! sonia message from sonia - dates for your diary "wednesday 1st may 2019 - walk regent's canal, victoria park to paddington basin, approx 9 miles. more details january 2019. in the meantime - who's up for highgate cemetery on wednesday 24th october this year?? start the day with 6-7 mile walk on hampstead heath, lunch at waterflow park before guided tour of highgate west cemetery at 1:30pm. it's a 70 minute tour, then an hour free time to explore east cemetery. west cemetery costs £12 and would need to be booked. minimum number is 10. if sufficient numbers we can book a coach. please contact me at this email address is being protected from spambots. you need javascript enabled to view it. so that i can gauge numbers. if it proves popular, i will put it on the programme." sonia public footpaths - update from geoff knight, 24th may 2018 "rail crossings. although the felixstowe inquiry is long finished and the suffolk public inquiry is grinding through what could be its last days we may well have to wait some while for an official report. the process has dealt with a mass of evidence, some of which has been robustly criticised by the experts employed by the ra and by scc rights of way. the strength of feeling and likely effect - especially of urban closures in bury and newmarket - has been thoroughly aired. we therefore await to see how the transport and works act impacts on out heritage of public footpaths. henley road footpaths i have not received any news nor received any information from users. i will endeavour to walk them all and make enquiries of row before the item is amended.i would thank all those individuals and parish councils who have been active in defence of our walking, and riding, network." we need more walk leaders! not difficult. in fact it's an enjoyable and interesting activity planning out a walk. especially as we have an archive of walks with really easy to follow maps. so please talk to any of us so you can be involved. there are gaps in the programme so please put your walk in. it can be long, short, figure of eight. whatever and wherever you fancy. for more information about the programme and how to lead and submit walks, see options under 'leading walks' in the main menu above. isla there's no such thing as too much cake! on the 9 may on a warm sunny afternoon, around 30 members assembled at bredfield village hall to set off on one of two walks. one led by geoff knight and a slightly shorter one led by our chair, isla clough. we all arrived back at the hall to be faced with the daunting task of demolishing mountains of cake and gallons of tea and coffee. thanks to all who made the delicious cakes, those who set up the hall, made the drinks and guarded the treasures while most of us walked. and not forgetting those who led the walks and helped clear up afterwards. it was a great opportunity to see members who are not able to walk regularly with us at the moment. after the feast, isla paid a warm and moving tribute to geoff who has been leading walks for ipswich ramblers for thirty years. she praised his skills at leading walks, his knowledge of wildlife, his amazing memory and of course his knowledge of footpaths. she also praised the work he as done keeping our wonderful network of paths open in this area. well done geoff. join the ipswich ramblers on one of their walks ever considered walking with the ipswich ramblers? you don't have to be a member for your first few walks so give us a try. we are a friendly and welcoming group. see testimony from a newly joined member after the walk on 4 april.
